Mike Zullo played his guitar throughout high school, practicing and playing to the point of
having bleeding fingers at times. Perhaps he thought about going back to his first instrument,
the piano, but he persevered with the guitar. Later, he went on to study at USC School of
Music and dropped out into the "school of life" after partying way too much all the way
through the first year of college. His major influences at the time were Randy Rhoads and
Eddie Van Halen, so you could say that perhaps they influenced more than just his guitar
style.

Luckily for us, this didn't affect Mike's mastery of the guitar at all, and he was coerced
into playing on
Life Without Breath for
Waking Born (the fact that he's Mark's twin brother
probably also played a large part in his accepting our request to play for us).
We initially asked him to work on only one track but, after hearing the rest of
the album, he was quickly interested in putting down another track as well. Mike's incredibly
fluid guitar solos are central to the tracks "Wicked Clown" and "Fugitive" and his early
playing can be heard behind one of the extensive transitions within the albumalthough that
part can be difficult to hear due to all the other things that are going on at the same time.
